Cabot may be an investor's dream -- it's always in the black. The company is the world's top producers of carbon black, a reinforcing and pigmenting agent used in tires, inks, cables, and coatings. It has about 25% of the world market for the product. Cabot also holds its own as a maker of fumed metal oxides such as fumed silica and fumed alumina, which are used as anti-caking, thickening, and reinforcing agents in adhesives and coatings. Other products include tantalum (used to make capacitors in electronics) and specialty fluids for gas and oil drilling. It operates worldwide, with combined sales to China and Japan adding up to almost 30% of Cabot's total business.
