Ever hear a song on the radio and want to know who it is? Shazam will tell you, for a fee. Using music-recognition software algorithms and a huge database of songs, Shazam offers a service in which consumers can send a 30-second sample of a song via mobile phone, and the company will send back the song title and artist in a text message. Launched in 2002, Shazam has agreements with mobile operators and claims that more than 20 million people have used its service. Through international licensing agreements, the company's service is available in Australia, Germany, Greece, Japan, and the US, amongst other countries. Shazam has received financial backing from Acacia Capital Partners and DN Capital.
