Z-Medica has the A-to-Zs of blood clotting down pat. The company manufactures and sells QuickClot, a product that rapidly stops bleeding in emergency situations, even from arterial injuries. QuickClot works by absorbing blood plasma, the liquid component of blood, and thereby concentrating clotting factors. The hemostat is made of biologically inert minerals, reducing the risk of a patient having an allergic reaction to the compound. QuickClot has been used by the US armed forces in Iraq and is available to civilian medical, emergency, and veterinary customers, as well as over-the-counter to the general public. Z-Medica, founded in 2002, also makes the product available to international buyers through distributors.
