Overview
From Canada to Chile, airline TACA (Transportes Aéreos Centroamericanos) bridges the Americas. The carrier serves about 30 cities throughout Central and South America and the Caribbean, as well as about 10 cities in North America. It operates a fleet of about 40 jets, mostly Airbus models, from hubs in Peru, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. It has code-sharing relationships with carriers such as Iberia and United Airlines. (Code-sharing allows airlines to sell tickets on one another's flights and thus extend their networks.) Founded as an cargo carrier in 1931, TACA is owned by the family of CEO Roberto Kriete. In February 2010 TACA and Avianca formed a joint venture holding company, which Avianca controls.
